IDA offers a wide range of Ballet Classes that are tailored for every age group and all skill levels. These classes introduce and expand upon classical ballet technique and terminology. Emphasis is placed on proper body and arm placement, execution of turn out and extensions, as well as application of port de bras and stylization. Our instructors are well versed in and teach Vagonava, Balanchine, Cecchetti, and Royal Dance Academy styles and techniques.
In Creative Combo, ages 5-7, dancers will enjoy this interactive class that introduces classical ballet technique, tap rhythms and jazz fundamentals. Emphasis is on traditional dance terminology, stretch and flexibility exercises, all in a structured, creative, fun and non-competitive environment.
Combo Ballet-Jazz, will introduce young dancers to the basic form, techniques and terminology of ballet, and the upbeat and expressive style of jazz dancing. Dancers will also gain an understanding and application of placement and alignment of the entire body.
Combo Jazz-Tap, will introduce young dancers to the basic form, techniques and terminology of tap dance, and the upbeat and expressive style of jazz dancing. Dancers will also gain an understanding and application of placement and alignment of the entire body.
Mommy & Me, for ages 18 months- 2.5 years, is a fun-filled class designed for boys and girls with their parent or caregiver. This class is an intro to dance movements and motor skills using age appropriate exercises. Focus is placed on fundamental movement skills, both to strengthen the student’s bodies and build their self-confidence all while in a playful environment.
Music & Movement, for ages 2.5-3.5, is an exciting 45 minute class for young dancers that introduces beginning rhythmic movement/dance steps as well as full body coordination and basic tumbling skills. A wonderful transition from Mommy & Me, this class will stimulate student’s imagination and promote creativity!
Creative Movement, for ages 3-4, is an introduction to beginning ballet and tap techniques. Emphasis is placed on basic dance developments, rhythm and creative expression, combining what they learn into fun and creative routines. Our dancers will learn in a playful, imaginative and non-competitive environment.
Creative Dance, for ages 4-5, will focus on beginning ballet and tap techniques as well as flexibility and strengthening exercises. Emphasis is on basic dance developments, full body coordination and creative exploration, combining what they learn into fun and creative routines. Our dancers will develop an appreciation for dance in a structured but non-competitive environment.
IDA offers Hip Hop classes, for ages 3-18, that are appropriate for both boys and girls who would like to learn the latest urban dance steps influenced by some of today’s hottest video choreographers! Focus is placed on proper conditioning and warm-up, individualized isolated body movements, and high energy combinations. Dancers will love learning these expressive and trendy dance steps while dancing to their favorite songs in an age appropriate manner.
Jazz is a form of dance that is directed by the sounds, rhythms and techniques of jazz music. Our Jazz classes combine these techniques while introducing stylization and movements of Contemporary dance. Emphasis is placed on incorporating jazz stretches and warm-up exercises, along with building upon progression combinations across the floor. Execution of alignment and placement in jump, turns and leap tricks, as well as creative expression through stylized combinations are also practiced.
Lyrical / Contemporary: This very popular style of dance expresses emotions and a story line through movement. Our classes introduce and expand upon basic modern, ballet and jazz techniques through emphasis on strength and flexibility exercises and floor work. Dancers learn progressions across the floor, incorporating stylized jumps, turns and leaps, blending what they have learned through creative combinations.
Creating rhythms and sounds, Tap dancing is truly unique. Tappers develop musicality, rhythm, quick thinking and the ability to “hear” music. Our classes provide an introduction to complex progressions, rhythms and advanced step combinations through the combinations rehearsed in class. We offer studies in several styles of tap including Broadway, Rhythmic, and Hoofing. Tap classes are based upon a studio wide curriculum set for all levels.
